At 2pm on the 7th January 1536, Catherine of Aragon, first wife of Henry VIII, died at Kimbolton Castle in Cambridgeshire.

Catherine had been ill for a few months, probably with cancer, but there were rumours that she had been poisoned by Anne Boleyn because her heart was found to be “quite black and hideous to look at”.
